Avin Rostami

Avin Rostami is a Kurdish poet and writer born into a landscape shaped by war, displacement, and enforced silence. These early experiences formed the foundation of her relationship with language and storytelling. In 1999, at the age of thirteen, she arrived in Norway as a political refugee, carrying with her both memories of what was left behind and an enduring search for belonging, identity, and home. Writing and poetry are central to Rostami’s work. She writes from the in-between- between languages, cultures, histories, and homes, exploring themes of exile, vulnerability, human connection, and quiet resilience. Her poetry bears witness to lived experience while holding space for hope, dreams, and transformation. Alongside her literary work, Rostami is a team leader in youth psychiatric services, where she works closely with young people navigating pain, strength, and survival. Writing has become more than a creative practice; it is a way of listening, remembering, and bearing witness. She made her literary debut in 2022 with the poetry collection Indre Kompass (Inner Compass), followed by Aldri Hjemme (Never Home) in 2024. Her third Norwegian poetry collection, Metamorphosis, will be published in March. She is currently working on her first manuscripts in English and Kurdish. Rostami draws inspiration from her own journey as well as the lives and stories she encounters. She believes deeply in the power of words- to heal, to connect, and to create spaces where truth, tenderness, and hope can exist side by side.
